[VIDEO] Check Out the Right Hand Drive C8 Corvettes Being Built at the Corvette Assembly Plant

[VIDEO] Check Out the Right Hand Drive C8 Corvettes Being Built at the Corvette Assembly Plant

It’s always a rare moment whenever we can get a glimpse of the mid-engine C8 Corvettes being built inside the Corvette Assembly Plant in Bowling Green during the age of COVID, but that’s exactly what I have to share with you today. Not only that, but the cars shown being assembled are the Right Hand Drive versions that will be sold in Japan, England, Australia, and New Zealand.

Corvettes have been exported to various markets since 1956 and the percentage of exports has always been relatively low when compared to domestic sales. With the new C8, the clean sheet design offered the opportunity to offer the C8 in Right Hand Drive, but no one ever said it would be easy. From Kai Spande’s presentation at the 2021 NCM Bash, we learned that there are 526 total RHD-specific parts and that 56 jobs are impacted when an RHD Corvette comes down the assembly line.

A plant employee shown in the video says it’s exciting to be able to offer the Corvettes in RHD as it gives Corvette the opportunity to broaden its customer base. The Right Hand Drive models have also given the employees new insight into the assembly process:

“It’s a lot of muscle memory doing the work that we do as the cars typically come down the line that left-hand drive is always done by one operator, so now your operator on the other side of the car is getting to experience what their counterpart does, and it’s really kind of opened everybody’s eyes to the different challenges that are presented within each specific job.”

[STOLEN] Man in a C8 Corvette Drives Away from Dealership in Brazen Theft Attempt

[STOLEN] C8 Corvette Drives Away from Dealership in Brazen Theft Attempt

We know Corvette enthusiasts have been waiting in line for more than a year in some cases to get their new mid-engine Stingray.

Maybe the guy seen in this screenshot at a Virginia-based Chevy dealership decided he just couldn’t wait any longer and decided to drive off right in front of a flabbergasted member of the sales staff.

We wonder why a customer would be so brazenly stupid to even try such a stunt in the first place. Doesn’t he realize – or even care – that OnStar has the ability to shut down the vehicle remotely? He had absolutely zero chance of pulling off this theft.

Indeed, according to media reports, the dealership was able to get its Red Mist Metallic Stingray Coupe back after the thief had managed to drive just a block away.

Someone happened to be videoing the car from inside the dealership and captured the incident for viewers on Facebook’s C8 Corvette Owners and Friends page. A former employee of the dealership believes the salesman was going to sit in the passenger seat and explain the interior, not go for a drive, though we’re wondering why the salesman wasn’t in the car already. Wanna bet the protocols for test drives and such have already changed at this dealership?

Sure, we like the new Corvette – who doesn’t? – but we wouldn’t be willing to spend some time in jail just for the thrill of driving it for a few minutes. Buddy, just wait your turn like thousands of other people have over the past couple of years, and you’ll have a new Stingray in your driveway soon enough.

[SPIED] C8 Corvette Z06 Prototype Practicing Launch Control and Flat Out Acceleration

[SPIED] C8 Corvette Z06 Prototype Practicing Launch Control and Flat Out Acceleration

Another spy video is making the rounds today and this one should excite those of you who have your name on a C8 Corvette Z06 sales list somewhere. The video features a camouflaged C8 Corvette Z06 prototype on a test track and it’s practicing some hard accelerations via the car’s launch control system.

The video comes from our friend Rick “Corvette” Conti who quickly added it to his YouTube Channel this morning. So make sure you subscribe if that’s your first time over there.

To capture the video of the launch control tests, the spy photographer was literally hiding in bushes as the car was being tested on what is said to be the North-South straightaway at GM’s proving grounds in Milford, Michigan.

We can tell that launch control is being used based on the elevated revs that flutter just before the car is launched.

The car shown in the video features the corner-mounted exhaust and there is no denying that the sound is the flat-plane crank V8 that is currently doing work in the Corvette C8.R factory race car. The racing engine is a detuned version that produces 500 hp for meeting the Balance of Performance marks, and it’s rumored to rev as high as 9000 rpm. We are expecting the power of the C8 Z06 to land somewhere between 600-650 horsepower once it is unleashed in the street car.

The preview of the video shows the unique rear spoiler on the back of the car that has been previously associated with the Z06. However, in the video, the car being tested is without a spoiler.

We keep hoping that a big announcement for the Z06 will be coming soon if there is any chance for it to be a 2022 model, but it’s really beginning to look like the Z06 will debut as a 2023 model. In the meantime, we can hear Chevy’s engineers testing the car with flat-out acceleration runs on the test track and that’s the best music we’ve heard all week!

When the spy video first started, I thought to myself that I had seen this previously. Looking back in our C8 Corvette archives, I found a similar video from 2018 showing a camouflaged C8 Stingray being testing in the exact same spot. Although the Stingray didn’t sound like it was using Launch Control, the hard acceleration features the deeper V8 sound that we are all accustomed to. I grabbed that video as well so you can compare and contrast the exhaust sounds being emitted from the two different models.

[VIDEO] Sarah-n-Tuned Offers a Unique Review of the 2020 Corvette

[VIDEO] Sarah-n-Tuned Offers a Unique Review of the 2020 Corvette

By now, we’ve seen lots of reviews of the new mid-engine Corvette, but we have to say the latest from a YouTuber whose channel is called “ AHREF=”https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCHSbIfwVuec_BwUrYAqN_qw”>Sarah-n-Tuned” has to be one of the best.

Her dry humor, along with that of her female passenger, definitely adds a different feel to this assessment of the 2020 Corvette Z51 Rapid Blue convertible loaned to her by General Motors.

For example, in her walkaround of the car, she notes that the side mirrors stick way out, prompting her to say “big ears are cute.”

The car has an “adorable” Stingray emblem on the top of the trunk lid, she says.

There’s an LED light and a 12v power outlet “so your gymnast that lives in the frunk can charge their smartphone or light a cigarette,” she quips.

The row of buttons on the center console, she says, “looks like a cluster-f***” but it’s “actually intelligent the way they did this.”

She notes that the sun visors sound like they’re made out of wood when you flip them up and then points to the warning label that, she says, reads “Advertisement de Cousin Goofball ’cause all cars need that label nowadays.”

[VIDEO] Sarah-n-Tuned Offers a Unique Review of the 2020 Corvette

One thing she “absolutely” loves about the car is the rearview mirror, calling the quality of the system “astonishing.”

“I swear to you when I was driving this thing,” she says, “I was watching people parked behind me picking their nose, talking on their cell phone, the smallest little details. You can definitely identify people in their cars behind you while they’re driving. I know that, that’s George or Gertrude … senior citizens driving behind me apparently.”

Two criticisms of the interior are the buttons on the steering wheel to control the audio system “feel cheap, like the one thing in here that feels cheap,” and the lack of space in the passenger compartment to store stuff – “pretty much have to rely on your frunk and trunk if you want to put anything in the car.” P>

Sarah notes that GM specifically sent her an email before the review asking her not to take the Stingray on the track or do any hefty performance driving. “What the f*** else is a Corvette for?” she protests.

But don’t miss her action on the road with her friend in the passenger seat, especially as they test the Corvette’s acceleration and braking capabilities. “Dude, my neck!” “My face! My face!” among others that will crack you up. P>

Sarah gives the new C8 “a ton of credit” for its daily driver ability. “You would think a car that looks like this, especially even just sitting in it, that it wouldn’t be comfortable, but it is,” she says. “In touring mode, this thing is super plush and comfy. I’m 5-11 and wearing heels right now, and I still am not cramped in here. It is a comfortable car.”

Finally, Sarah rates the car in several categories, using some rather unique methods.

For example, on her Bean Score, which is “based on the feeling you get behind your belly button when you give it the beans,” the Stingray earns 3.7 Beans out of 5. “This thing is seriously quick from a dig, and it’s fast from a roll. However, I have to say at times when I was getting on it, I kinda felt like, yeah, this thing could use a little more power. But when you launch this car, it means business.” P>

On the Squid Score, “a ridiculous assessment” of the vehicle’s handling, the Corvette earns 3.4 Squids out of 5.

On the Cookie Score, based on what you get for what you spend, an assessment of value, in other words, she gives the Corvette a solid 5 Cookies, even with the 3LT and Z51 packages.

“Honestly, I don’t care what trim spec you get this car in, I think it is an astonishing value,” she raves. “I am thoroughly impressed with the overall quality of this car. The question is, though, is this thing going to drastically depreciate in value like previous generations once it’s a couple of years old? That we’ll have to wait and see.”

[VIDEO] Sarah-n-Tuned Offers a Unique Review of the 2020 Corvette

Finally, on the Penguin Score, “my assessment of how much I personally like a car,” Sarah gives the C8 another 5 Penguins!

Based on comments from regular viewers, it’s apparently a rare thing for Sarah to give any vehicle a pair of 5’s, so kudos to the Corvette.

“I’m so thoroughly impressed with this car,” she concludes. “I can’t say that enough. I absolutely love the color in and out on this thing. It’s a fantastic car – I’ll just leave it at that.”

[VIDEO] Lingenfelter Track Tests Tuned 2020 Corvette

If you’ve been eager to find out what Lingenfelter Performance Engineering has in store for the C8 Corvette, you don’t have much longer to wait.

The legendary American tuner just dropped a video showing two of its 2020 Corvettes undergoing testing on what GM Authority believes to be Pittsburgh International Race Complex in Wampum, Pa., and at the end of the flick, Lingenfelter announced that it will release information about its upgrades on Nov. 9.

[VIDEO] Lingenfelter Track Tests Tuned 2020 Corvette

In the video, we see and hear a Sebring Orange Tintcoat Lingenfelter C8 that has been fitted with Corsa headers and exhaust, a carbon fiber Performance Design intake manifold, and Vossen Evo Series aluminum alloy wheels inside Continental Extreme Contact tires. Other notable differences include a front splitter and rear wing, both done in carbon fiber.

Also shown is a yellow and black Lingenfelter, though we’re not provided with any details about this particular car. Perhaps that will be announced in November, too.

While all tuners have been hindered by the apparently unbreakable ECU, we’re sure Lingenfelter will still have some impressive news next month, based on its heritage of powerful upgrade kits as well as the fact that the company says both of the cars in the video passed the testing with “flying colors.”

[VIDEO] 2020 Corvette Battles the Nissan GT-R And Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S on Throttle House

[VIDEO] 2020 Corvette Battles the Nissan GT-R And Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S on Throttle House

After vanquishing the 808 HP Challenger SRT Demon and the 760 HP Shelby GT500 to establish the eighth-generation Corvette as the holeshot king of the RWD American performance landscape, Throttle House, who we are just going to start calling the best automotive channel on YouTube, is continuing to take advantage of their time with the newest ‘Vette in their possession. This time, they brought along two twin-turbo, AWD Axis powers to attempt to serve the mid-engine upstart some humble pie using the potent drag weapon of superior traction.

The four-corner powered foes that Throttle House chose to take on the Z51 Stingray are the aging, but still brutally quick Nissan GT-R, from the Land of the Rising Sun, and, hailing from Deutschland, the car that the hosts call, “the best sedan in the world,” the [deep breath] Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S 4MATIC+ 4-Door Coupé.

[VIDEO] 2020 Corvette Battles the Nissan GT-R And Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S on Throttle House

The deep blue Nissan is motivated by a 3.8L V6 with parallel Ishikawajima-Harima (IHI) turbochargers that help it reach a top horsepower figure of 565. Coupled with the all-wheel-drive system and a quick-shifting, six-speed dual-clutch transmission, “Godzilla” is good for sub-three second sprints to 60 all day long.

The four-door version of AMG’s flagship supercar brings a best-in-test (and likely underrated) 630 ponies into the ring. Its aluminum, 4.0 liter (actually 3.982) V8 is also force fed by a pair of turbos which result in a staggering 664 lb-ft of twist. Because of the excess of torque, it uses a traditional, 9-speed automatic gearbox and is rated as a dead ringer for the C8 and GT-R to 60 MPH.

[VIDEO] 2020 Corvette Battles the Nissan GT-R And Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S on Throttle House

Even with HP advantages of 70 and 135(!), respectively, neither of the Corvette’s adversaries in this test are quite as beach ready. Godzilla, never known for his physique, tips the scales at 3,933 lbs., 300 heftier than America’s sports car, while the AMG carries a staggering 4,682 lbs., or a C8 plus a half of a ton.

Unlike past tests where TH has attempted to keep the MSRP’s close, our domestic hero really flexes its value muscles in this test. With a base price around $60k and an estimated as tested price of $85,000, the Corvette looks like an absolute steal next to the $160,000 base AMG. Even the R35 GT-R, that won Motor Trend’s coveted Car of the Year award in its inaugural year on sale, over a decade ago, in 2009 (though, if you read that link, we think it’s pretty obvious that the C6 ZR1 was more deserving), on the back of a startlingly low, $77,840 MSRP, has ballooned in price to anywhere between $115,335 and $212,535, depending on trim level.

How does all of this information manifest itself in drag and roll races? Are we making excuses for our blog’s namesake automobile? Is it all misdirection? Watch the video to find out, and get your popcorn ready because you are in for a wild and entertaining seven minutes!
